Mark Shiva has 25 + years of police and management experience as a Field Supervisor, Criminal Investigator, K-9 Handler/Trainer, and administrator. Mark is also known for his knowledge and expertise with school police departments while serving Compton Unified School District for 9+ years. Mark has worked collaboratively with diverse backgrounds and cultures. Mark has developed a strong field experience and excellent qualifications in departmental management, effective communications, problem solving, budgeting, negotiations, and crisis management. He is renowned as the “go-to-person” in difficult or unusual situations.
In 1998, while serving as K-9 Handler/ Master Trainer for Compton Police Department and the Compton Unified School District, Mark interviewed, hired, trained, and deployed officers. He coordinated, developed, and instructed a series of community outreach programs designed to increase resident knowledge of safety and security. He led numerous presentations on crime and drug prevention to fraternal groups, business groups, schools, and non-profit organizations. His specialty was counseling high risk gang members within the Black and Hispanic populations. He was commended for coordination and implementation of training programs for the department's officers. He initiated a mutual aid agreement with Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department to assist him with providing Active Shooter Trainings and Hostage Situation Crisis Management Trainings for the district's officers and transportation staff. He coordinated crime suppression with other state and federal law enforcement agencies. Mark conducted meetings on police matters with the School Board President, Superintendent of Schools, City Council representatives, and the City Mayor. He still maintains a collaborative working relationship with Los Angeles, Glendale, San Fernando, and Burbank Police and Sheriff's Departments as well as with the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Mr. Shiva is a member of the Los Angeles County Police K-9 Association, the Canine Narcotic Officers Association. He volunteers his time to provide pro bono K-9 training to Burbank, Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Tactics Unit, and Los Angeles Sheriff's Department.
Mr. Shiva possesses certification and training in Administration of Justice courses from Ventura College and College of the Canyons and continuous POST Training.
